Xiamen is situated on the southeast coast of China.  On the opposite side of Taiwan Strait is Taiwan Island. Xiamen has a land area of more than 1,565.09 square kilometers, and a sea area of 300 square kilometers. It enjoys a subtropical climate, mild and temperate with abundant rainfall.  Its annual average temperature is approximately 21 C.  Thanks to the favorable environment, Xiamen has become an international harbor and tourist resort.

Every year, tens of thousands tourists from China and abroad go to Xiamen, enjoying the azure sky, blue sea, golden beach, green hills, rocks of extraordinary shapes, fantastic caves, well-cultivated gardens and parks,  wonderful flowers and plants, and visit the ancient temples and historic relics.  Visitors can experience special local customs, and taste seafood with southern Fujian flavor.  With the mild evergreen climate, flowers bloom all year round, and flame trees add color to the streets, and egrets sing and fly in the sky. Xiamen leaves many visitors with a warm romantic feeling.

Xiamen has various sightseeing attractions, places of historic interest, and tourist resorts, such as Gulangyu Islet, also known as Piano Island, Nanputuo Temple, Ten-thousand Rock Botanical Garden, Jimei, and other ecological and environmental scenic spots outside the island.
